Destination Bridgwater

Tourism

The Visitor market is a major contributor to the economy. This is both on a Southwest wide basis and hear in Sedgemoor. Squibbing

Bridgwater has many interesting scenic, historic and leisure related attractions, as well as good pubs, restaurants, local produce and not to mention our world famous squibbing and carnival.

The visitor market is not only restricted to tourism attractions and scenic walks though.

Bridgwater also plays a large part in the supply chain to the Somerset and nationwide tourism industry, including manufacturing companies supplying to the building services sector, waste management, catering and food, road maintenance for through traffic to West Somerset and even the construction and trade sector play their roles in the supply chain too.

Visitor Market

Visitors to Bridgwater are not only on holiday, with the unprecedented amount of inward investment due to arrive soon, there is a need to build upon our service industry to cater for business travellers.

Bridgwater is ideally positioned on the M5 with two motorway junctions for business meetings and conferences as well as executives visiting such places as EDF and Hinkley C, DHL/Morrison’s, Gerber, and Bridgwater College.

Over the years the visitor economy has been managed by our public sector partners at Sedgemoor District Council (SDC), however with recent government policy change, local tourism and the visitor market will have to be lead by private sector businesses.

The Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce is ideally placed to offer local businesses who benefit from tourism or the visitor economy, the opportunity to help set up and guide a local Destination Management Organisation (DMO)  as a subcommittee to the Chamber.

Working with our partners at both SDC and the Bridgwater Vision, the chamber is welcoming any company, group of companies or organisations that are interested in hearing more about the Chambers proposal for a DMO, to contact us here and helping us to continue to build on the good work that our partners at Sedgemoor District Council have traditionally managed.
