National Apprenticeship Week is almost here - Bridgwater College

Preparations are well underway for the fifth National Apprenticeship Week, taking place from 6 to 10 February 2012.

As part of the annual initiative to raise the profile of the Apprenticeship scheme, Bridgwater College is delighted to announce that it will once again be organising the annual Apprenticeship Recruitment Event, which will be held at the College in March – but it needs to hear from employers now!

Local and regional employers are invited to exhibit at the event, with a focus on those who are currently or have previously been involved in employing an apprentice. Companies quick to sign up to the event include luxury leather goods manufacturer Mulberry and energy supplier EDF Energy, but in previous years the guest list has included businesses ranging from construction to costume design, and from golf courses to graphics agencies.

Head of Business Development Andy Berry explains, “As university places become increasingly expensive, young people and their parents are starting to look at apprenticeships as an alternative route to career progression; a recent College open evening saw a surge in enquiries about the availability of apprenticeships in subjects as diverse as engineering, media, butchery and textiles. These apprenticeships can only be made available, however, if local employers are willing to offer jobs and training to young people.”

During the evening employers will be able to talk to the College apprenticeship team, meet hundreds of potential apprentices and their families, network with other companies and, of course, promote their business to a significant audience.
