Since purchasing The Old Vicarage in January 2019, we have undergone a complete renovation, both internally and externally. We have a great track record of property renovations and operating hospitality businesses. Our previous local success being The Bower Inn from 2010 to 2017. Sadly, the property had become neglected in recent years, but now is returned to, or even beyond, previous glories and is frequently referred to as “a Gem”.

This historical and highly characterful property boasts: 16 individual, comfortably modernised and well-furnished en-suite bedrooms; various restaurant areas with capacity for approximately 60 guests; bespoke traditional bar area with soft seating; a heated covered patio area including a wood fired pizza oven; and arriving spring 2021 a 100m2 marquee.

The business re-launched summer 2019, but with the effects of COVID is still waiting to complete a full year of trading. However, when allowed to operate has already started to carve out a name for itself and is pushing for recognition as “the place to eat” in Bridgwater.

Our covered patio and marquee allow outside dining for mixed groups if we return to Tier 2 type restrictions. The patio was a great success during December. They are also well placed for future weddings and functions which we are now promoting through our website.

We are excited about the prospect of re-opening the kitchen this spring and have been busy behind the scenes planning menus, recruiting new team members and preparing for a hospitality bounce back which should last for some considerable time.

The summer of 2020 was a success, all things considered, and the hotel racked up high occupancy. The reviews from our guests have been excellent and we expect to have another strong uptake with holiday makers travelling to the South West, and for those using Bridgwater as their base. The expected “Staycations” of the near future will stand us in good stead and in preparation we have developed a comprehensive list of day trips to help ensure visitors get the very best from Somerset.

We are extremely positive about the future of Bridgwater and our role at The Old Vicarage. We continue to invest our time and resources into ensuring that we have a robust, successful business. We are already liaising with various local businesses and organisations and are very keen to work with others for mutual benefit and support and hope that other entrepreneurs will contact us.
